Kalu Idika Kalu is an internationally trained Economist. He had his first, second, and third degrees at the University of Wisconsin). He is also a Yale Stimson Fellow of the Yale University New Haven, USA. The Abia indigene has worked in the economic planning and development policy field across many regions in East Asia and Africa, contributing significantly to their economies. Furthermore, he was the head of the economics division at Skoup & Company Limited, where he directed major studies covering the industrial and agricultural sectors including LNG, petrochemicals, steel, oil, and agricultural infrastructure and credit.
KIK, as he is fondly called, has served in the government as well. He has held ministerial positions including Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning in Imo State, Federal Minister of Finance, Federal Minister of National Planning, and Federal Minister of Transport. One of his Key achievements as a Minister of Finance is the introduction of the Value Added Tax policy, which to this day, rakes in millions of dollars into the coffers of the Nigerian government. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED).
Dr Kalu Idika has won so many awards from various organizations ranging from churches to associations. He is married to Dr (Mrs) Imo Kalu and they have five children who are doing very well in their respective fields.
